Meet Bethany DeLoof, a master’s student studying Biological and Environmental Sciences while pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Science Writing and Rhetoric, and former standout on URI's women’s track team. Originally from Strongsville, Ohio, Bethany spent her summer interning with NOAA Fisheries Northeast Fisheries Science Center.
Her project focused on communicating the work of NOAA's Apex Predators Program to a broader public audience. Bethany dove deep into shark research, exploring new shark aging techniques and sharing insights from fishermen involved in the Cooperative Shark Tagging Program.
When asked what she enjoyed most about the program, Bethany said she liked "challenging myself to translate this complex topic for a public audience." She added, "I enjoyed interviewing fishermen participating in the program. It was so interesting to hear their stories."
