Brandt Truck Operator Chad Francis recounts his vehicle’s collision with a train while crossing railroad tracks in Eagle Lake, Texas, to underscore a lifesaving message – always expect a train.
During
#RailSafetyWeek, share these tips to help keep drivers safe:
✔️Always check for multiple tracks at crossings. Two tracks may mean two trains – make sure all tracks are clear before crossing.
👀Slow down, look both ways and proceed if your entire vehicle can clear the railroad crossing.
🚂If a train is approaching, stop at least 15 feet from the nearest rail. Remember, trains are 3 feet wider than the tracks on both sides.
❌🚗Never drive around lowered gates – saving a few minutes is not worth risking your life.
📞🟦If your car stalls or stops on the crossing, get everyone out and away quickly. Call the phone number on the blue and white sign posted at the crossing or dial 911 to report a stalled vehicle.
