Man I had a WILD experience in South Dakota last night. Right before the aurora went ham I noticed a strange sound and tried to figure out where it was coming from because it was getting so loud when it was dead quiet when I arrived. I finally realized it was coming from the power lines. When the aurora really got going I could hear the entire line down the road buzzing and it wasn't a high tension power grid that normally hums. When the aurora started to relax it would begin to get quieter before eventually at the end of the night stopping.
