‘Fearless’ is a word Owen’s family uses to describe him. Owen was born with complex single ventricle heart disease that required him to undergo a special and rare procedure known as a hybrid VAD, which combines surgical and catheter-based interventions with simultaneous placement of a ventricular assist device (VAD) to support heart function as a bridge to #hearttransplant. For 10 months, Owen lived in our Cardiac Center while awaiting transplant, participating in our Advanced Cardiac Therapies Intensive Rehabilitation Program to help his heart and body grow stronger. In July 2023, Owen received his new heart and now at 2.5 years old, he is thriving at home with his family and looking forward to many fearless adventures!
