I’ve been a professional balloon designer for 3.5 years, and there’s a lot of things I know now that I wish I would have known when I started my business. But by far the biggest one of all is: Figure out your artistic style and stick to it. It took me about 6 months to really lean into my specific design style when I first started. In the beginning I just wanted any job that came my way (which is totally fine, especially when you’re new!) but I found myself taking jobs that did not fill my cup, and competing to get those jobs with about 8,264,484,687 other balloon professionals. Then one day I decided to stop saying yes to absolutey every job that came my way and started saying yes only to the jobs that matched my desired artistic style.
