Maddie’s college grad party was this weekend, and I knew going into it that it meant more to her and her family than just a grad party. Maddie graduated high school in 2020, and never got the chance to celebrate that milestone like she should have. So as I finished her setup on Saturday I reflected on that dark year and how much it took from all of us. ALL of us lost something that year. Some more than others, but still we all mourn those losses together.
And yet, in the wake of that brutal time we’re still all here. We’re picking up the pieces of what was broken and building something new.
Some people think my job is frivolous and silly, or just straight up unnecessary. But the fact that I have the honor and privilege of sharing a tiny sliver of hope and love with my clients as they get to celebrate a beautiful milestone, when we all know how easily that can be taken from us, makes my job incredibly meaningful for me.
