Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown appears poised to leave office after the Western Regional OTB approved a contract Thursday morning for Brown to become the next president and CEO of the organization.
The deal is worth $295,000 annually, with incentives for a second and third year.
Brown is the longest-serving mayor in Buffalo's history, having served since January 2006. He was elected to a fifth term in 2021. He still needs to obtain a gaming license from the state, but WROTB chairman Dennis Bassett is hoping Brown can get the license as early as next week.
“What Byron Brown expressed to us,” Bassett said, “Is he’s taking over a position now and he’s managing a corporate entity. And he’s looking to make sure that we run this organization in a corporate way and not a political way.”
