The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says odds are good that skeletal remains found in a rural part of north Tuscaloosa County last week are those of a man who was reported missing in December.
Marcus Skelton, 47, was reported missing from his home in the New Lexington community in December after he'd last been seen in May 2024.
The Tuscaloosa County Criminal Investigations Division took on the investigation but developed no leads.
Last week, specialized search canines visited the area and searched the area and located skeletal remains in a wooded area several hundred yards behind the family's home.
Physical evidence found at the scene suggests the remains are those of Skelton, but they are being tested to confirm the identity of those remains. Investigators said there are no immediate signs of foul play but the investigation will remain open until an identity is confirmed and all investigative leads have been exhausted.
