"Hyundai Terrace Commission: Marina Zurkow: The River is a Circle" is now open on the whitneymuseum’s fifth-floor terrace. Known for her research-driven, time-based works exploring ecological systems and multispecies entanglements, Zurkow animates a living Hudson River ecosystem shaped by weather, local history, and technology. Driven by real-time environmental data and algorithmic probability, the installation visualizes oyster reefs, schools of fish, and historical barges as they move through the layered context of New York’s Meatpacking District. This site-specific project is the second Hyundai Terrace Commission, part of a multiyear partnership between Hyundai Motor and the Whitney, supporting experimental works that engage with place, scale, and the public.
