DJDS Wilderness Trailblazers spent yesterday at St. Mary’s Glacier putting their avalanche preparedness knowledge to the test. The sunny day was well spent with a vertical snowshoe hike up to the glacier, practice using beacons properly, how to efficiently probe and shovel, and then students had the chance do conduct their own rescue missions in under 10min which ensures a victim would not suffocate. Excellent new skills to learn and practice, hopefully to never be needed out in the wild.
