There are many benefits to training unilateral movements. Training one arm or one leg at a time can: •Correct imbalances that could lead to injury •Help you move out of a plateau •Create a much stronger core than you currently have Don’t get stuck training bilateral movements all the time, change up your training program for better results. Try this test: 1. Take your 10 rep max barbell strict press 2. Divide it by 2 3. Find that DB and do max single arm strict press for both arms •Did you get to 10 on both arms? Great! •Did you fall short on both arms but equal reps side to side? No strength imbalance BUT you need to work on 1-arm strict press. •Did you get a more than 2 rep difference from side to side? You have an imbalance, add these to your training. You can apply any Rep Max number that you have, for example: if you only have a current 3RM, divide it by 2 and use that to single arm press for 3 reps.
