The Calgary Tower was lit up purple tonight, for International Sarcoidosis Day. I actually have Sarcoidosis (pulmonary), although it's dormant. It was discovered by accident just over 10 years ago. I had pink eye, which was pretty awful, and it didn't seem to be getting better so I went to the Sheldon Chumir to get checked out in case there was something that could help. While looking into the pink eye, the doctor noticed I had a pretty bad cough as well so she ordered some chest x-rays. The x-rays showed enlarged lymph nodes. I was referred to a lung specialist at the South health campus. He ordered a biopsy, which he did himself. It confirmed the presence of Sarcoidosis. For the next 4-5 years I would head back to see him and do breathing tests to check my lung function. Had to sit inside a glass box and blow on tubes. Fun! Nothing ever showed any indication of any problems so eventually we decided it was no longer necessary to do any further testing, unless something changed...
