It’s a somber #StormSurvivorSunday on the island after a devastating fire ripped through the 1857 George Ball House in The Silk Stocking Historic District yesterday. Our island’s historic homes and their stewards are resilient. Built by significant Galveston merchant and banker, George Ball, this home has been through multiple hurricanes, a move from Tremont & Sealy to 24th Street, and other close calls. As always, these historic survivors represent more than just the wood, mantels, and chimneys of historic relevance; they represent the Galvestonians who lived their lives within these walls and built the island we all love today.
