Congrats to ‘Blackheart’ and first-time mom 'Caterpillar', who were both seen off the coast of Florida near Ponte Vedra with their new calves. 🐋💕 Calving season is an exciting time for these critically endangered whales, but it’s also very dangerous. Mother and calf pairs swim slowly and close to the water’s surface to breathe. They are very susceptible to being hit by speeding boats, which can cause injury or even death.
