Arrupe House of our CHS House System held a toy drive this month to collect items for the Belle Center, a community center on the West Side of Buffalo.
Arrupe students and mentors, in an effort headed by math teacher Staci Shick, collected a great many toys for the center’s summer programs for elementary school-aged children. The toys were delivered on Friday.
The idea for the toy drive came out of the CHS Faculty Day of Service earlier this year, when Shick was among a group of teachers who served at thebellecenter; Shick's group was one of 12 different faculty groups working at outstanding organizations in Buffalo.
Arrupe is one of six houses in the CHS House System, which provides an additional level of camaraderie and brotherhood through competition in various events and initiatives, including service projects like this one. All students are members of one of six houses named after prominent Jesuits: Arrupe, Campion, Gonzaga, Jogues, Loyola and Xavier.
