A former local standout is coming back home. Jarin Stevenson, a 6-foot-11 forward who spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Alabama, committed to head coach Hubert Davis and UNC out of the transfer portal Sunday night. Stevenson will have two years of eligibility remaining. Stevenson’s high school recruitment saga stands as one of the more controversial in recent UNC history. A star at Seaforth High School in Pittsboro, Stevenson grew into a highly-touted prospect. ESPN and 247 Sports both rated Stevenson as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024. And he was not the only Pittsboro prospect to draw national attention: Northwood High’s Drake Powell also ranked highly in the class. UNC was heavily involved in Stevenson’s recruitment and initially considered one of the leaders in the race for his commitment. But Stevenson ultimately chose to reclassify – effectively skipping a year of high school and moving into the recruiting class of 2023 – and commit to Alabama. ...
