#ICYMI The emotional reunion brought together Chase Benoit, Jared Hansen, the 2-year-old #servicedogs Wendel and Artemis, they helped raise and train as incarcerated handlers at the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. #SanQuentin was once home to the largest death row population in the United States. The Canine Companions Prison Puppy Training Program started the year when the prison began to transform its methods to a rehabilitation approach, in which incarcerated individuals receive education, training and rehabilitation. Dogs trained in the prison program have a 10% greater success rate at becoming service dogs than those raised outside of the initiative because of the amount of time and care that incarcerated #puppy raisers put into their dogs. In addition, the recidivism rate of incarcerated handlers is less than 5%, indicating that the program has a long-term impact and positively contributes to rehabilitation efforts. šŸ•ā€šŸ¦ŗ Link in bio to view article and news coverage on ...
