🐾 The number one reason a recall might fail? Too many rehearsals of anti-recalls as puppies grow up. 😬
What does that mean? Well, if your dog has access to a yard and spends their days outside chasing squirrels, chipmunks, or whatever moves… it makes total sense that at the park, they’d rather chase dogs, bikes, or squealing kids than come when called. 🐿️🚴♂️👧
Those rehearsals of ignoring recall and finding reinforcement in the environment make it way harder to build a solid, reliable recall later. 🔁❌
When I get a puppy or rescue dog, they go outside with me, on leash — not just for safety, but to prevent rehearsals of behaviors I’ll eventually have to untrain. 🎯
If your dog is consistently rewarded by the environment, it’s working against your recall goals. Set the stage right from the start. 🐶
