Lucky Linda.
My grandma wasn’t just the heart of our family she was my favorite person in the world. My mom’s mom. The smartest, strongest woman I’ve ever known.
She used to work at a bank in Manhattan, and let me tell you, she was sharp with numbers. After school, I’d sit by her feet and soak up game watching the local Queens hustlers come through her number spot to play lotto. She had that quiet power, that undeniable brilliance that moved through everything she did.
When I’d walk in from school and smell steamed shrimp and fried rice, I knew she hit a number. That was her version of celebrating and making sure we all felt it with her. She always gave everything she had to us.
I love my grandma soooo much. I don’t know what I’m gonna do without her, but I know she’s with my mom now—her best friend.
I’ll see y’all again one day.
