KCPR’s very first Pledge Drive was in 1975, and the station’s Sports Director at the time, Larry LaFollette, set out to make a major splash to help the station upgrade to stereo. He starred in a non-stop 80-hour marathon show to create buzz for the station and encourage listeners to donate. The set featured a guest appearance from local radio celebrity Captain Buffoon and made LaFollette somewhat of a celebrity in his own right. “I was on top of the world for four days. I felt like Mr. San Luis Obispo.” To read more about the first KCPR Pledge Drive, head to kcpr.org where our very own @evanga2so caught up with LaFollette and chronicled this blockbuster event. The tradition of KCPR’s Pledge Drive still continues today, so we urge you to donate through the link in our bio before June 4th to support student radio and keep this spirit alive!
