What’s the difference between these digs? ⬇️ (Hint: it’s not 1 vs 2 arms)
There’s the obvious feedback when digging a hard driven ball: absorb the ball and get your hips under to help pop the ball up and and keep it on your side of the net…But what about when the ball is hit a little outside of your body?
Not only do you need to have good sharpevision_modernlasik eye sequence, but one of my biggest pieces of advice when digging a hard driven ball hit a little away from you is to make sure that you cut the ball off at an angle in front of you.
You can see in dig 1 I let the ball get a little past me, thus the touch did not deflect forward. In dig 2, while I did get two arms on it, I was able to cut the ball off at an angle in front of me, thus causing the ball to deflect forward towards my blocker.
When practicing on your own, you can work on passing/digging balls at a forward angle with 1 or 2 arms, and as you progress, start to incorporate faster paced balls to work on eye seque...
