Welcome to Open House Weekend! Did you know that Cal Poly's open house tradition dates back to 1904? From 1904 until the 1920s, Cal Poly hosted an annual "Farmers’ Institute and Basket Picnic." Events included agricultural lectures, demonstrations of new farming equipment and student projects, and a chance to eat good food. By 1910, the Farmer's Picnic was so popular that the Pacific Coast Railway offered reduced fairs, attracting more than 800 visitors to campus. In 1913, over 3,000 visitors attended, celebrating the school's decennial. Photos from the #CalPolyArchives at Kennedy Library.
