Your trash🗑 ➡️ our energy🔌
Instead of contributing to landfills, our McKay Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility converts over 2 million lbs of waste into electrical energy each day - powering about 15,000 homes monthly. That’s why we just wrapped up $100M of upgrades to ensure it continues to keep up with industry standards & reinforce a sustainable future for our city.
💡 Point of Pride: Our staff are always seeking new ways to innovate and best serve our residents! We were the second city in the nation to assume direct operation of a waste-to-energy facility. That transition led to hiring over 55 employees - bringing more local workforce opportunities and valuable expertise to our team.
💡 How does it work? Short summary: The trash is burned, which produces steam that turns turbines - which create the electrical energy.
As our city grows,
#TransformingTampa through capital improvements like this are critical to the success of our city and our future generations.
