April 16 is World Semicolon Day. World Semicolon Day recognizes suicide survivors and aims to raise awareness and offer support for all those who are experiencing mental health challenges. The semicolon is a representation of choosing not to die by suicide, since it indicates a separation of two clauses rather than the end of a clause. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a semicolon tattooed on the inside of my left wrist. It's a daily reminder of what almost was some 10 years ago. I am stronger for it. I am stronger for Ashleigh. I am stronger for my kids. There are no periods in my story…only a semicolon because my story isn’t over.
