Happy #InternationalBatAppreciationDay 🦇 Did you know that seven of them have been observed at your Toronto Zoo? These fascinating animals might not be as visible as others, but they are an important part of our biodiversity in Toronto and beyond! In fact, there are eight species of bat that call Ontario home. More than that, your Zoo’s Field Conservation team undertakes a variety of research projects around Toronto, and beyond, to learn about bats and design conservation actions to keep them on the map. This includes mapping their populations, tracking their movements, and testing methods to reduce human impacts, such as bat houses. This work is more important than ever, with three more Ontario bat species listed as endangered in Ontario as of January 2025. Continue to learn about our Native Bat program at torontozoo.com and watch for some batty events which are coming to your Toronto Zoo this August! 🦇 #savingspecies
