It’s #WorldVoiceDay. Did you know that your vocal cords typically vibrate 100 times per second?! While that movement is far too fast to be seen by the naked eye, videostroboscopy allows providers at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s BarrowNeuro to visualize and assess the movement of the vocal folds (vocal cords) in slow motion, using a special camera and synchronized flashing light. The unique diagnostic procedure helps Barrow speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and otorhinolaryngologists (ENTs) identify, evaluate and treat issues involving the larynx (voicebox) with individualized care plans. Carolyn Abraham (pictured) is one of the SLPs who use this technology with her patients at Barrow. #parkinsons #parkinsonsawarenessmonth
