“That’s my kid, 40 years later.” Last October I had the opportunity to travel to Linyi, China to be a part of a team to help train and teach technicians how we do audiology, speech/therapy and early intervention. It was a trip of a life time. I got to bring my dad (we originally thought simply to help with translation services) and it was the BEST thing ever. We had the bright idea to share my dad with the parent group and it was the most magical moment for ALL parties. I still get chills and tears thinking about it - the new parents got to hear a father’s perspective of our family’s DHH journey in THEIR language. He got to see what I do in clinic/with patients - and me all grown up serving the DHH community. Full circle magic, hearts overflowing with emotion and at the end - he pointed to me and said “That’s my kid, 40 years later. Look how far she’s come, your kids and your family will be okay.
