United Campus Workers of Alabama and Communication Workers of America’s Local 3821 are holding a protest today on the Quad at 4:30 p.m. They are calling for a $20 minimum wage for hourly workers and a $5,000 cost of living adjustment (COLA) for all campus workers, to “account for years of inflation.” The COLA will apply to all campus workers -- graduate students who currently receive stipends, not hourly pay, included. The petition also calls for minimum three-year contracts for full-time instructors, biweekly pay for graduate student workers along with more summer assistantships/fellowships and a clear path to full-time for part-time instructors.
