Title x Author: Last Summer on State Street by Toya Wolfe StoryGraph rating: 5 ⭐️ “We Chicago Landmarks” - Meechie Im really grateful to my past self for signing up for the book tour by barrettbookreviews . This book was beautifully written. I spent a lot of time hanging with family in the projects and I could see so many people I knew represented in this story. Wolf made space for the wide range of issues that plague inner city Black communities. From gang violence to losing friends to gentrification to managing family values, it was all captured in this story. My favorite thing about this book is the writing. It’s vivid. It’s real. It’s specific. Although Fefe is a child, the writing is not childish. It took me back to playing jump rope with my friends outside. The childish arguments and thought processes were there. The struggle to stay in “a child’s place” when you’re surrounded by chao was there. It was all there. This book wrecked me emotionally but I liked the ending. I’m ...
