In a joint interview with China Media Group and Astro Awani, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed that Malaysia’s foreign policy is guided by national interest, the principles of free trade, and a commitment to public welfare amid growing geopolitical volatility.
The remarks come ahead of President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Malaysia on April 15–16 — his first in 12 years — underscoring the strategic importance of China–Malaysia relations in an increasingly complex global trade environment.
Prime Minister Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s support for open and rules-based trade and expressed interest in strengthening bilateral economic cooperation with China, even as global trade faces challenges stemming from U.S. tariff policies and shifting geopolitical alignments.
