Happy Easter! 🐰🐣
We promise you’re not seeing double…these two foals are TWINS 😍 The twin Thoroughbred fillies were an unexpected - yet beloved - arrival March 10 at Meadowbrook Farm in Shelbyville, Kentucky.
Out of the Palace Malice mare Kona Kai, the twin foals - a rarity in the Thoroughbred world - are both daughters of Mill Ridge Farm’s Oscar Performance. The bay has been nicknamed “Mary-Kate” with the chestnut accompanying her as “Ashley.”
Despite the surprise, their owners Debbie and Howard Appel couldn’t be more thrilled that the twins and their dam are thriving, thanks to the care of farm manager Lori Hendrickson.
After spending a week at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital to receive supportive care from neonatal specialist Dr. Barr and her team, the twins were sent home and have gradually been moved into bigger paddocks to enjoy stretching their legs and frolicking about.
As of yesterday, Mary-Kate weighed 144lbs and Ashley weighed 153lbs.
