This speech is from Steve Jobs’ 2005 Stanford Commencement Address. To this day, it remains one of my favorite speeches. ——— This piece is inspired by my mother. Her name was Marisol— which, when broken down, literally means: Mar, meaning sea, Y, meaning and, Sol, meaning sun. Sea and sun. Two beautiful, opposing forces—opposite, yet perfectly paired. This piece reflects that: a deep, cool sea embraced by the warmth of the sun. The gold reminds me of heaven. There’s something inherently spiritual and transcendent about working with gold.
