Orion in black-and-white. The Orion crew module that flew around the Moon on Artemis I returned to NASA’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio, in January 2024. This facility is where the module underwent environmental testing before its historic mission around the Moon in 2022. Now known as the Environmental Test Article (ETA), the crew module completed an 11-month post-flight testing campaign necessary for the safety and success of Artemis II. In November 2024, experts completed the forward bay cover jettison test. The forward bay cover protects Orion’s parachutes and must be ejected in order for the spacecraft’s parachutes to deploy.
