#EarthDay with Tom Poole (tompoole_dp) and Emi Kondo (la.orquidea.ninja) Tapirs have quietly shaped the rainforest for millions of years—yet most people still know little about them. Growing up in Costa Rica, Emi often heard they were aggressive or dangerous. But through the lens of this ongoing project, she and Tom have discovered something very different: deeply social, intelligent animals with complex family bonds and a vital role in the forest ecosystem. Over the past year, they’ve been following a newborn calf and its mother, capturing intimate, never-before-seen moments in the life of this endangered species. More than just a film about wildlife, ‘Tapir Valley: Land of Dreams’ is a call to recognize the value of often-overlooked species—and the conservationists and communities working to protect them.
