🛣️ What is chip sealing, and why does it matter? Let’s break it down!
Chip sealing is a pavement preservation method, and spring temperatures are just right for it. 🌡️
So what exactly is chip sealing? It’s a process where aggregate (crushed gravel) and emulsion (asphalt binders + water) are applied together to form a fresh new surface layer on the road.
But did you know there are two types of chip sealing?
1️⃣ Standard chip seal – What you normally see: emulsion and gravel applied together.
2️⃣ Hot application chip seal – Heavier asphalt binders are heated to 350–400°F, sprayed on the roadway, then covered with pre-coated chips.
Both methods help extend the life of the road, improve smoothness, and give drivers a better experience.
Keeping our roads in great shape takes strategy and the right temperature. ☀️
