“It was a pretty moving experience. … It was surreal.” Craig Hinchcliffe and several students spoke Wednesday about the CHS educational trip to Italy over Easter Break, which culminated in the group being part of a historical moment: Pope Francis’ final public appearance as he said “Buona Pasqua” – Happy Easter – and blessed those gathered in St. Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday. Hinchcliffe is in his 17th year at CHS as a teacher, primarily teaching history. He has traveled extensively with CHS on immersion service trips and educational trips the last three years to Germany, Spain and this year to Italy. The trip to Italy began in Venice, then Florence, then to Rome, which included a special tour of the Jesuit Curia headquarters by Fr. David McCallum, S.J., a Buffalo native who once taught at CHS.
