Cut the ice in half:
- Goaltenders, staying with the theme of knowing how much to move and trusting your feet, this is a prime example of how easy it is to over move, even in a seemingly quick situation.
Sergei Bobrovsky is known for his lightning fast reflexes and his tremendous edges. While this is a quick play, you will notice this pass comes from the left handed defenseman on the strong side of the ice down to a player just above the goal line. Now, of course, Bobrovsky has to respect the threat of a one timer, but with his strong footwork, he would be better served with a shuffle into a lateral release. He gets such a powerful push, that he actually blows past the point of where the puck is received on the stick. Fortunately, it does not hurt him on this play. By cutting the ice in half and identifying strong side versus weak side threats, when you are getting your reps in practice, it will help calm your movement down come game time.
Knowing how much to move is an elite level ...
