Laurel Prudhomme is a
#volunteer from the Southwest Region and a four-time (and counting!) puppy raiser, who's part of the Canine Companions Rocky Mountain Chapter in Colorado. Her journey with Canine Companions began two decades ago, after learning about us through a conversation with a graduate. Upon discovering all that his
#servicedog did for him, Laurel felt inspired to contribute - though, she initially met resistance from an employer who denied her request to have a dog in the workplace.
“I put the idea of being a puppy raiser on the back burner,” Laurel says. Her motivation simmered then, but the flame never truly went out. When circumstances allowed her to finally take on
#puppy raising, Laurel did so with gusto.
“The things I like most about puppy raising are, first: I love seeing the wheels turn in the pups’ heads as they're learning. I’m amazed at what these dogs learn to do. My second-favorite thing about it is sharing the puppies with people when we're out in public,”...
