“I’ve seen first-hand how small, trauma-informed adjustments can make a big difference during one of the most vulnerable moments in the lives of neurodivergent children and adults.” ⁣ ⁣ Detective Leading Senior Constable Teresa O’Sullivan is from the Knox Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team. ⁣ ⁣ As a mother of two autistic children, Teresa draws on her personal experiences to find ways to help victims who are neurodivergent feel safe and comfortable when telling their stories. ⁣ ⁣ Having followed the work of Yellow Ladybugs as a parent, she has collaborated with the Melbourne-based organisation to create a free resource, designed to support families and professionals in educating neurodivergent children and teens about body safety and how to recognise unsafe situations. ⁣ ⁣ Autistic girls and women who experience sexual abuse and family violence can face additional barriers to seeking help.
