The move follows an executive order signed Wednesday that instructed the secretary of education to “reverse or rescind any actions by the prior Administration that allow universities to obscure details regarding their foreign funding” and “require universities to disclose the true source and purpose of foreign funds.”
The department’s press release appears to reference a May 2023 article from the Daily Beast alleging that campus did not disclose a $220 million donation from the Chinese government. At the time, campus spokesperson Dan Mogulof told The Daily Californian that the allegations were false, calling the Daily Beast’s article “rife with errors and significant omissions.”
