In a statement published on the Kremlin website, Putin announced that DPRK forces had actively taken part in "defeating a group of Ukrainian militants who invaded the Kursk region."
Until now, both the DPRK and Russia had not officially acknowledged that DPRK forces were fighting alongside Russian troops.
According to the Russian president, DPRK troops operated "in full accordance with international law, in line with the letter and spirit of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and the DPRK."
"Our Korean friends acted out of a sense of solidarity, justice, and genuine comradeship. We highly value this and are sincerely grateful to Chairman of State Affairs Comrade Kim Jong Un personally, as well as to the entire leadership and people of the DPRK," Putin said.
