Harvard Medical School students Peter and Matt traveled to hospitals across Ghana to interview frontline health care workers about the benefits and challenges of drone-based blood delivery. They heard compelling stories about how reduced delivery times have improved patient outcomes and saved lives.
While the technology is safe, easy, and works well, it is costly and does not solve the underlying problem of inadequate blood supply in Ghana. Their global health research reveals the need for cost-effectiveness studies and continued efforts to increase blood donations.
Peter and Matt’s project is an example of one of the opportunities for medical students to engage with global communities during their time at HMS.
