Libby Shur remembers her son Elliot every day when she wakes up. Shur remembers her son while sitting in her living room, which still has his small jungle gym, an indoor swing, and toys on the floor. On her kitchen counter, a row of sympathy cards are placed by a framed photo of Elliot, who drowned in a pond April 8. The 6-year-old, who was autistic, had wandered away from his father into the pool of water behind Hy-Vee in Altoona. It's a common situation for children diagnosed with autism and, after time heals, Shur hopes to help raise awareness to help families avoid situations like hers.
