By design, this course is delivered on week two of recruit school. The purpose is twofold. First, we teach our newest employees and future leaders the many elements of followership. Second, it’s an opportunity to engage our recruits and understand their perspectives on the concept of followership. Organizations often teach their personnel how to become better leaders; however, what is missing is the importance and relevance of being an effective follower. Our definition of Followership is, “The ability to take direction well, to get in line behind a program, to be part of a team, and to deliver on what is expected of you.” The straightforward concept in this definition is to deliver on what is expected of you, which ultimately is to lead.
