Carter Smith is graduating early with a 4.0 and a job on Wall Street. #JSUGrad25 #PeopleofJSU: "Losing my father right before my senior year of high school was devastating, but it also fueled me to strive for excellence. I took an unconventional path, going from being my high school’s salutatorian to finishing community college in one year. Now I am about to graduate from JSU with a 4.0 GPA a year early. I never imagined that a kid from Jackson, Mississippi, could make it to Wall Street so soon, but here I am: I became the first JSU student selected for S&P Global’s CREDit Ratings Program, which is part of their credit division. After completing the internship, I was offered a full-time role and will return to New York this fall as a credit ratings analyst. Being one of only a few HBCU students among dozens of Ivy League interns taught me that talent and determination matter more than where you come from.
