In To Be Blown Away, Jessica Wang translates personal memory into powerful movement, drawing from her childhood experience surviving Hurricane Harvey in 2017. At just nine years old, Jessica watched her world darken under the weight of relentless storms, the eerie wail of sirens, and the helplessness that came with seeing her city unravel. Through self-choreographed motion, she revisits the fear, confusion, and fragile hope she clung to as a young girl — a haunting yet tender reflection on the forces of nature and the vulnerability of our communities. Now older, Jessica recognizes the deeper cause behind the storms: a planet pushed to the brink by human-driven climate change. To Be Blown Away is not only a portrait of devastation but a stirring call for change. Her performance urges us to look beyond temporary fears and trends, to face the damage we have inflicted on Mother Nature, and to act with urgency before the storms grow fiercer.
