Most food photos look boring. Here’s why, based on what I see (and what I do differently):
• I don’t just shoot the plate, I shoot the experience.
If it’s a fine dining spot, I want the image to feel like the restaurant. The lighting, the mood, the intention. Not just “here’s a dish.” shot pinterest style.
• I spend time shaping light.
I work the light until it makes me feel something, you feel me? You want an actionable tip? Stop pointing your softbox directly at the food, turn it so just the wall of the softbox is pointing to the food, that’s how you get depth and texture, not flat, lifeless images.
• I color grade with a purpose.
Food should look real and appetizing, not neon. I’ve spent years refining how I grade my images, and it’s why I built the Master Food Tone pack, for shots that feel elevated but still honest. Comment FOOD TONE and I’ll send you the link.
• I don’t follow trends, I follow taste.
You can always tell when a photo was made to get likes instead of to tell ...
