Black communities face a dual crisis of digital exclusion and environmental injustice. ✌🏾 38% of Black people in the rural South lack home internet, but they’re stuck with energy-hungry data centers and toxic e-waste dumping. Our health and safety are put in danger to further technology’s advancement, but we are unable to reap the benefits of basic internet access. Right now, Musk is building a supercomputer for his company xAI in Memphis, a predominately Black neighborhood. Technology must uplift, not endanger, Black lives. We need: 1) Sustainable data centers that use renewable energy, not fossil fuels ♻️ 2) Bans on e-waste exports to Black communities and corporate accountability for harm 🚫 3) Community-led oversight of tech projects in Black neighborhoods 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾 Tech should be equitable.
