President Donald Trump has ousted his national security adviser, Mike Waltz, and appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio as interim replacement — marking the first major reshuffle since Trump returned to office.
Trump praised Waltz’s work and said he will nominate him as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Rubio now holds both top roles — the first person since Henry Kissinger in the 1970s to serve as secretary of state and national security adviser at the same time.
At a White House event, Trump said, “When I have a problem, I call Marco. He gets it solved.”
Waltz had recently come under fire after being linked to a March scandal involving a Signal chat among top national security aides.
