A fourth round of nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran, originally scheduled for May 3 in Rome, has been postponed. An Iranian official stated the new date will depend on the U.S. approach, citing Washington’s continued sanctions as a hindrance to diplomatic progress.
The delay comes after the U.S. imposed fresh sanctions on entities allegedly involved in Iranian oil and petrochemical trade. Iran responded by accusing the U.S. of contradictory and provocative behavior, particularly in light of its simultaneous military strikes on Yemen’s Houthis—an Iran-aligned group that Washington has blamed for attacks in the Red Sea.
Oman, which has mediated prior rounds of the negotiations, confirmed the talks were being rescheduled due to logistical reasons. Despite the tension, Iran’s foreign ministry reaffirmed its commitment to serious, results-oriented dialogue.
